Formula 1 racing cars have a unique design and marvelous detail. That’s why racing cars running at this speed of 300km / h cost up to hundreds of billions.
Formula 1 racing is a sport enjoyed by many passionate fans around the world. However, it is easy to follow the race on TV, and to pursue F1 passion is never for the average.
F1 car design has only one seat and four open wheels are quite “naked”. However, the cost parameters for putting such a car on F1 racing track are enough to break a myriad of record cars.
Engine – The most expensive part
The engine of a racing car must have a tremendous capacity. An F1 car often uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine. The cost for the most expensive engine can be up to 8-10 million dollars, the repair price is about 1/10 of the new replacement price. This cost is quite reasonable for the engine with fuel efficiency of 29%.
An interesting fact is that famous pairs of pain like Mercedes or McLaren outsource engines from Honda to save a part of the cost. The engine only accounts for 10% of the value of the formula car 1.
F1 racing cars have a seamless chassis designed mainly from carbon fiber and light materials. The weight limit allowed to impact on the chassis is 733 kg. This volume includes the weight of the driver, but does not include materials.
The average price of carbon fiber is US $ 21.5 kg. The smoke-free frame structure of F1 cars costs up to $650,000.
Rear wing and DRS system
The wing is an essential part of an F1 car due to the balance requirement of entry. F1 racing has a rear wing system to adjust the traction reduction system to help accelerate (DRS). This helps the vehicle to overcome air turbulence when accelerating ahead.
On the straight line, riders can use the DRS system, and when the curve comes, open the rear wing. The car will now run faster, the bends will be a dramatic point in F1 races. The cost of the rear wing is about $80,000.
Formula 1 has a gearbox made of carbon titanium. It has a semi-automatic gearbox with 8 forward gears and 1 reverse gear. The cost for gearbox is nearly 480,000 US dollars. Sometimes teams will upgrade gearboxes to achieve higher performance. This small change can add up to nearly $ 160,000.
Formula 1 racing cars have many amazingly expensive and wonderfully designed parts. And many of those parts are more expensive than today’s A-class luxury cars in Vietnam. For example, only the F1 car’s automatic recording and data transfer system is $130,000.
The total value of a Formula 1 racing car basically falls to about $15.52 million. Speed is something that can’t be done well with F1 cars. The top teams spend up to $450 million a year on the championship, many of which pay for very small differences in every bend. Collisions with Formula 1 racing are losses of billions.
